Author Jeff Kinney loves to laugh, and you will too when you read the Wimpy Kid Series, with three books released and two more in the works. "I wanted to write a story about all the funny parts of growing up, and none of the serious parts," Jeff writes on his website. "I decided to write a book about what it's really like to be a kid, or at least what it was like for me."
Kinney says he's part of a new generation of very visual readers. Cartoons and video games are a big part of his life. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is a hybrid, he says: half-comic, half-novel. There's a cartoon on every page. These are not just illustrated books: the cartoons are integral to the plot.
Jeff says he wrote these books as a lark, just for fun. The wimpy kid is no role model, he warns. But now he gets email after email from parents of reluctant readers saying: this is the first book my son has ever made it through...thank you for turning the light on for my child.
